Biography

Close to home. Clear about what matters.

Meet Nneka Constantino—also known as Nneka S. Constantino and Nneka Serwaa Constantino—the host of Financial Fitness on KMOJ 89.9 FM. She is an Economic Architect rooted in the Twin Cities, with St. Paul, Minnesota, at the heart of her community work and her understanding of how money decisions shape a family’s options.

Nneka brings more than 20 years in financial services to the microphone. Her early professional experience includes the trading floor at Piper Jaffray in Minneapolis and work with Smith Barney. Those chapters gave her a close view of markets, institutions, and the language that can make money feel more complicated than it needs to be. As an Economic Architect, she connects that experience to the everyday work of building stability, ownership, opportunity, and legacy.

Financial Fitness grew from a belief that useful money education should sound like a conversation, not a lecture. Nneka created the show to make questions about credit, saving, retirement, wealth, legacy, and economic opportunity more practical and connected to real life. The point is not a perfect spreadsheet. The point is a clearer next step, a stronger question, and a community that can share what it learns.

At KMOJ—The People’s Station—Nneka is the host who brings clarity, care, and purpose to the conversation. She listens for the pressure behind the numbers: the family responsibility, the history of unequal access, the cost of waiting, and the courage it takes to start again. Financial Fitness makes room for Black cultural experience, joy, ambition, and the systems that shape what people are able to keep and pass forward.

Financial Fitness is a community financial-education program of KMOJ 89.9 FM, The People’s Station, owned and operated by the Center for Communications and Development. KMOJ is the station, and this site belongs to the KMOJ community. Nneka’s role is to help the show serve that community with language listeners can use at the kitchen table, in a family meeting, or while making a plan for the next season of life.

The show broadcasts live every Wednesday from 6:00–6:30 PM on 89.9 KMOJ FM. Listeners can stream KMOJ at kmojfm.com, then continue the conversation through the podcast on Spotify for Creators or Apple Podcasts.

Nneka’s public work includes community education and media appearances. Her content contributed to the PBS/TPT collaboration Make Money Work, which was recognized with a Regional Emmy. Nneka Constantino is a vocalist with the Grammy Award-winning Sounds of Blackness and a graduate of Howard University. She is the daughter of Minnesota musical legend Cynthia Johnson, known for “Funkytown.” These parts of her story—radio, music, education, and economic empowerment—meet in a voice that understands both the spotlight and the neighborhood.

Her story is also a reminder that financial education is never separate from culture. Music taught Nneka how a shared rhythm can bring people into the same room; Howard University gave her a lasting connection to history, leadership, and possibility; and KMOJ gives her a living channel for that work. She brings those influences together without flattening them. A conversation about a credit report can sit beside a conversation about family, faith, work, art, and the kind of legacy people want to leave.

Listeners do not have to arrive with the right vocabulary. They can arrive with a question about where to begin, a story about what their family has carried, or a desire to make a different pattern possible. Nneka’s work is to help turn that starting point into understanding and to keep the door open for the next question. The show’s community focus means the audience is not an abstract demographic; it is a network of people whose insight, history, and encouragement strengthen the signal.

That mix is why the host page is also a doorway into the wider site. Start with the episode archive, browse digital assets, read the Financial Fitness blog, or visit Support to help keep community-centered conversations moving. Every route returns to the same idea: information becomes more powerful when people can use it together.
